90 learners from Pulamadibogo Primary School have been admitted to different medical facilities in Soshanguve, according to the Gauteng Education Department. The incident occurred after they allegedly consumed space cookies, which they allegedly purchased on their way to school.
Parents and community members are experiencing mixed emotions as a result of the incident. The parents had a hard time explaining their feelings. There were those in the community who wanted to meet the vendors who sold dagga-laced cookies to the learners.
As a community, we should join together and stop drug sales near schools. “We should monitor the sale of products to learners at school or burn sales,” says David Nkosi, a community leader.
According to him, space cookie sellers should be hunted and found. If the two suspects reported to have been arrested get bail, they should be swept off the streets if they are selling unusual things.
Community members have told the Tshwane Bulletin that learners are advised not to buy from the school yard. It’s unfortunate, but most kids do the opposite of what we tell them, and now we blame schools for their actions.
“Parents of the affected learners are supported by the community at large. Our wish is for a quick resolution and for justice to be served to the affected learners” added Nkosi
