Students of the Tshwane University of Technology turned out in large numbers to support a cleaning campaign on university campuses in order to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy, clean environment at the university.
This was also to assist campus cleaners and promote good personal hygiene by keeping the environment clean.
A clean environment promotes health, and students are becoming enlightened and accepting the value of a clean environment.
The Acardia campus was the first site where students participated in this campaign. One of the students, Thabiso Mahlangu, says that since they started this campaign, they feel very happy, because it helps the staff make their work easier, and on top of that, we as students should know that it is our responsibility to keep the place where we study clean.
This week, the campuses in Soshanguve will be visited where it is suspected that the level of pollution on the campus is very high, It will start with the south campus and continue with the north campus.
Karabo Rara who is a student at the Soshanguve campus said,” The campus in Soshanguve is the dirtiest because it is in a township where people do not pay attention and do not keep the classroom clean.”
Several students spoke about their commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more diverse campus and plans to continue cleaning up litter and dumping.
