JOB SCAM ALERT: PUTCO raises alarm for Soshanguve and Mabopane
The Public Utility Transport Corporation (PUTCO) has issued a critical warning to residents of Soshanguve and Mabopane, urging vigilance against a surge in fraudulent job schemes.
In recent weeks, reports have surfaced detailing elaborate scams targeting vulnerable individuals seeking employment opportunities at PUTCO.
“This is a warning about a job scam that is targeting individuals in the Soshanguve and Mabopane areas. Vulnerable members of the public are being promised jobs in return for money,” Said PUTCO.
In response to this alarming trend, PUTCO has taken a proactive stance to safeguard the welfare of community members.
The company aims to raise awareness and empower residents with vital information to identify and avoid falling victim to these deceitful practices.
“The person behind the scam identifies himself as Thabiso or Ernest Mlengetsha and claims to be a PUTCO employee and carries what appears to be a PUTCO staff card. Scores of people have been going to our Roseville depot to “report for duty”. Added PUTCO.
The bus company has emphasized the importance of exercising caution when approached with offers of employment, especially those requiring upfront payments or personal financial information.
The public bus service further said that the company is not in any way connected to this individual and cautions the public against paying for any employment opportunities.
“PUTCO advertises vacancies on its website and LinkedIn page and does not require any payment before employment is confirmed”
“Please email vacancyverification@putco.co.za to establish the legitimacy of job advertisements: Member of SABOA.”
Furthermore, PUTCO urges residents to report any suspicious activity or encounters related to job scams to the relevant authorities, facilitating swift action to combat these illicit operations and protect the community from further harm.
