JDR Stars FC’s hopes of securing a Betway Premiership ‘playoffs’ spot took a major hit on Sunday after a 3–0 defeat to log leaders Durban City at Giant Stadium. With just two matches left in the season, The Hammer Boys sit in sixth place, four points adrift of the ‘playoffs’ zone.
While mathematically still in the race, uncertainty hangs over the club’s chances. JDR are winless in their last five games, a sharp decline after a promising start to the season that had them eyeing a top-three finish.
Local football analyst Obakeng Mothiba labelled the club’s dip in form as “déjà vu.”
“It’s been seasons now, JDR Stars failing to maintain consistency towards the end of the campaign. They start strong every year but somehow fall apart. It’s concerning and disappointing for Tshwane football lovers,” he said.
Next up for JDR is a crucial home clash this Sunday against second-placed Orbit College FC. Despite recent struggles, head coach Nditsheni Nemasisi remains hopeful his side can still qualify.
“We’re not giving up. There’s still a chance, and we’ll fight until the final whistle on May 18,” said Nemasisi
