Exciting developments are underway for young local cyclists. The Soshanguve Youth Cycling Club has announced the official addition of BMX to its range of cycling disciplines. This move marks a major step forward in the club’s mission to develop young cycling talent across the townships.
BMX cycling, known for its high-energy format, involves racing on closed-circuit tracks featuring jumps, banked turns, and obstacles, allowing riders to perform tricks and aerial manoeuvres. The sport combines athleticism with creativity, giving cyclists a platform to showcase their flair.
Club representative Thandi Skosana expressed her enthusiasm about the new direction.
“We are beyond excited! Adding BMX to our disciplines feels like a fresh and thrilling chapter for our club. It is a dynamic sport that brings a new level of energy and creativity to cycling, and it has already sparked a lot of enthusiasm among our members,” said Skosana.
According to Skosana, the decision was driven by growing interest from local youth and a desire to provide more inclusive and stimulating opportunities within the sport. She said the announcement had generated strong community engagement.
“The reception has been incredible. There is a noticeable buzz, and we have seen a number of young bikers many of whom have never engaged with us before show genuine interest in joining. The excitement is contagious, and it has been beautiful to witness new talent and passion emerging so quickly.”
Skosana encouraged interested youth to join the club, which is committed to nurturing the next generation of competitive cyclists who could one day represent Soshanguve on international stages.
