The MMC for Housing and Human Settlements, Aaron Maluleka, MMC for Roads and Transport Tlangi Mogale and Sarah Mabotsa, the MMC of Economic Development and Spatial Planning visited Ward 75 in Hammanskraal to assess the damage caused by severe floods that were due to recent heavy rains.
The visit aimed to evaluate the extensive impact on the community and to discuss immediate interventions.
“During the visit, I engaged with affected residents and gathered insights into their challenges and needs following the floods, which were exacerbated by inadequate storm water infrastructure in the area,” said The MMC for Housing and Human Settlements, Aaron Maluleka.
“It is heartbreaking to witness the impact of these floods on our communities. We want to support and understand what is needed to help our residents recover. The situation in Ward 75 has led to significant displacement of families and damage to property, which necessitate urgent action,”
“The City of Tshwane is committed to developing and implementing interventions that will address the immediate needs of the flood-affected individuals and focus on long-term improvements in storm water management to prevent such incidents in the future,” added Maluleka
The MMC for Roads and Transport, Cllr Tlangi Mogale, emphasised the following: “Our focus is not only on relief efforts, but also on enhancing our infrastructure to ensure this does not happen again. It is critical that we partner with our community to build a resilient future.”
The visit underscores the City’s 100-Day commitment to address service delivery issues, which include flooding and infrastructure challenges in Hammanskraal and all our regions.
