The National Library of South Africa and the Museum of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo have partnered with the Bulgarian Embassy to present “Our Common World – Smiling Messages from Bulgaria,” a new exhibition. This collaborative effort aims to showcase Bulgarian humor and culture to South African audiences.
This unique, humorous but thought-provoking satire-themed exhibition will be hosted at the National Library of South Africa in Tshwane on Friday, 04 October 2024 from 13H00 to 16H00.
According to the National Library of South Africa, the exhibition will showcase a selection of satirical works and contemporary Bulgarian cartoons, the work of the leading Bulgarian artists in this area, that explore the humorous and light-hearted side of common human experiences, highlighting the shared values and challenges of our global society.
This exhibition represents a cultural bridge between Bulgaria and South Africa, erasing the geographical distance between the two countries. As cartooning can be seen as universal art that is funny and recognisable, when viewed in South Africa or Bulgaria. The exhibition reflects the power of satire to bring people together through humour and making complex issues more accessible and engaging.
“We are excited to collaborate with the Embassy of Bulgaria. It is very important for the South African public to visit and view this amazing exhibition which we believe will encourage cross- cultural dialogue and understanding,” said the National Librarian and CEO of the National Library of South Africa, Mr Kepi Madumo.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Monday, 07 October 2024 until 11 October 2024. All are welcome and admission is free.
