The Mabopane Square Shopping Centre hosted the 3rd Annual Mabopane Community Achiever Awards to honour individuals who are committed to and involved in community development.
These are community members in Mabopane who are positive role models, who have significantly impacted people‘s lives and redefined community service.
Since the inception of the Mabopane Community Achiever Awards, these have been a true definition of inspired visionaries who volunteer and emphasize community needs and make a variety of contributions that make a difference.
The Centre Manager, Jabu Mahlangu, has stressed the importance of recognising the communities and appreciating champions within the society.

“At the heart of any community, there are caring people who make a difference, and Mabopane Square Shopping Centre seeks each year to recognise the individuals who go the extra mile in their community-related roles”
In his speech, Mahlangu also touched on the importance of the awards in lifting the spirits of those who have made a difference in the community and that they do not do it to seek notoriety.
He also pointed out the difficulties of being a volunteer in the community. “I was once a volunteer myself, and no one understands how difficult it is to give back to the community without getting something out of it. With these awards, we want to show our appreciation to you who give your all to our community and say that we see the good work you do”
“We make sure that all contributions are appreciated and that everyone feels they have a home where they are valued. This will encourage members to stay involved in the community because recognitions promote community health,” Mahlangu added.

Ward 21 Councillor Phumzile Mbokane was also present at the ceremony and received a standing ovation when came on stage.
