Winterveldt residents are demanding answers from Ward 24 ANC councillor Christopher Sikhumbuzo Masia, whom they suspect of benefiting from monthly contribution money for servicing electrical cables and transformers. Residents pay R50 per household, with half of that amount being pocketed by the councillor. Accusations have been made that the councillor is connected to the contractor appointed to fix the area’s electricity.

Masia has denied the allegations, saying he is not involved in any illegal activity, that the contractor is not a close associate, and that he is willing to cooperate with the investigation.
Residents also claim that Eskom has not serviced their network systems for a long time in Winterveldt. Eskom continues to cut off illegal connections in the area; their network systems are incapable of serving the whole Winterveldt.
