The community of Soshanguve, Block GG Ward 94 has been suffering from a water shortage for two weeks now. Residents have now opted to fetching water from a burst pipe nearby, they rely on the burst for all household needs including cooking, bathing, and drinking.
Residents say they called their ward councilor notifying her about the issue of not having water but according to them, the response was that there is no way she could help because of the Tshwane strike.
Residents now rely on boiling water for it to be safe for consumption and they feel that their right to service delivery is being tempered by the municipality.
Counselor Elisa Mlotshwa told the Tshwane Bulletin that she knew about the water shortage in Block GG. The problem the municipality faces is being unable to deliver services due to the municipal workers’ strike.
“At the moment am following up with the RH to assist in this regard. We tried bringing tankers it is not safe, because of the strike. It has turned out to be violent and worrisome” said Cllr Mlotshwa.
Even though it is tough for the municipality to deliver services because of the strike, communities are in need of being taken care of. Block GG residents are even calling for external help if there is someone who can assist.
