The Standing Committee of Chairpersons of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, led by Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane will on Wednesday visit the Jubilee Regional Hospital in Hammanskraal as the number of laboratory-confirmed cases and mortality rates increases to 23 in Gauteng, and 1 death in Free State.
The Standing Committee will visit Mandela Community Hall from 09h00-15h00 then the district hospital where an increasing number of patients are admitted with cholera symptoms.
During the oversight visit, the impact of the cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal will be assessed and awareness will be created regarding this deadly disease.
The oversight visit also seeks to bring together all relevant stakeholders to ensure cooperation in assisting the community to minimise the impact of the outbreak but also to curb any further spread of the bacteria to other regions.
The oversight visit will include the Jubilee Hospital and Temba treatment plant, as well as schools and affected families. A walk-through will also be conducted and interactions with relevant structures and communities will take place to assess how well the outbreak is being managed. Health, Wellness, COGTA, and eGovernment will lead the Joint Oversight Visit.
