As part of their commitment to making meaningful strides against Gender-Based Violence on campus, the institutional Student Representative Council hosted a gender-based violence summit recently themed “An open conversation with gents.”
The event was hosted at the Tshwane University of Technology Soshanguve Campus and it was an open dialogue between students about Gender-Based Violence with specific attention to male students. The main idea was to create an inclusive and supportive environment that promotes communication, understanding and growth.
Shepherd Khoza ISRC president General said,” The initiative aims to address various issues, concerns and experiences that students face particularly focusing on the male perspective.”

“The event received messages of support from campus protection services, student development services, GBV victim empowerment centre and university SAED”, Said Khoza explaining the speakers they had on the day.
The Student Representative Council believes that one of the most effective ways to break societal stigma is to have engagement on it and thus believes that all the students who attended did so because they understand the importance of such topics.
Shepherd concluded by saying he would appreciate it if the event could be an annual thing however they have a limited office and the next team to join the SRC would decide if they continue with the initiative or not.
