In the course of his duties, Constable Leteki of the Rietgat SAPS has abided by his Code of Conduct to the letter and kept his oath.
This member was assigned the task of finding and arresting a suspect for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. In the tip-off, the suspect was referred to as GBH at Mabopane Station, where he did just that, arresting the suspect and refusing bribes.
Upon receiving the information, Constable Thenani Leteki acted swiftly and went to Mabopane Station where the suspect was arrested, and read him his rights accordingly. When they got to the Rietgat Police Station, the suspect offered the Constable R150 for his freedom but Leteki refused it and added another charge of bribery to the existing charge of GBH.

The Rietgat SAPS’ Station Commander Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto commended Constable Leteki for honouring the badge. “We need this crop of police officers who are not corruptible and make sure that they uphold the integrity of the organisation, without fear or favour. We need to multiply the Letekis within this organisation so that we can beat the scourge of crime, ” said Station Commander Maphoto.
Brigadier Maphoto further extended the message to the community to stop trying to collude with the police and to work closely with them in the fight against crime.
Cases of GBH in the Rietgat policing precinct are thorny to the station and it is clear if this bribe is anything to go by, the suspects are doing it without remorse.
This was the second time the member refused a bribe and added an extra charge to the suspects who are trying to pay their way out of jail.
The suspect is due to appear at the Soshanguve Magistrate Court soon.
The police further request members of the community who might have information that may lead to the arrest of known criminals to contact them on their Crime Stop Hotline number 08600 10111 or Client Service Centre 071675 6250 or Station Commander on 082 455 8236
