Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane Randall Williams has extended his sincere congratulations to the 2022 matric leaners for achieving an overall pass rate of 80,1%. This is up from 76,4% in 2021.
The 2022 matriculants endured Grades 10, 11 and 12, studying through a difficult period that included the COVID-19 pandemic and worsening load shedding.
Our learners were put through severe strain, and the Ministry of Basic Education conceded that regular load shedding has a negative impact on the basic education sector, since electricity is needed for teaching and learning, especially for specialised schools where equipment is needed during class time.
Despite the challenges. these learners have proved their resilience. Nationally, all the provinces achieved a pass rate above the 70% mark. We applaud their enduring spirit and commitment in this regard.
I would also like to congratulate our very own Tshwane South District together with the Gauteng North District for being the fourth- and fifth-best performing districts at 89,0% and 87,7% respectively.
Let me also extend many thanks to teachers, school management and parents for their commitment and support in advancing education for our learners.
To the learners who did not achieve their desired results, this is not the end. There are many other available avenues to improve your results and achieve your goals.
Once again, congratulations to the Metric class of 2022 on your excellent performance.
