An extensive drug bust was made by the Tshwane Metro Police Department’s (TMPD) Drug Unit in Hammanskraal. There were four suspects between the ages of 35 and 50 arrested for allegedly possessing crystal meth, heroin, and a cat worth an estimated R550 000. At the moment, the suspects are being held at Hammanskraal and Temba police stations.
After receiving a tipoff, the Drug Unit conducted an operation and went to the reported address. They found a bakery that was being used as a front to package drugs. While they were there, the owner arrived with crystal meth that needed to be packaged. The Drug Unit members searched him and found more drugs in his vehicle.
As the MMC for Community Safety, I want to thank and applaud the members of the Drug Unit for their continued efforts to rid our streets of the scourge of drugs. Many communities in Tshwane face a daily struggle with the crippling effects that these substances have on their users, who are often young and vulnerable. Those who are either directly or indirectly affected by drug and substance abuse,
kindly note that the City runs a 24-hour toll-free helpline to provide support for matters related to substance abuse. This helpline can be contacted at 0800 611 197 or 0800 467 347.
“I also want to issue a strong warning to drug dealers that the TMPD Drug Unit is taking the battle head-on and we will not rest until we get rid of this scourge,” Said MMC.
“ Residents who want to report drug-related crime can contact the South African Police Service at 10111 or the TMPD on 012 358 709517096,” Added MMC.
