Sonwabo Mogopeni has opposed his bail application at Pretoria high court. He is facing rape and kidnapping charges.

It is alleged that on the 03 April 2022, Mogopeni raped and kidnapped a 19-year-old woman who had ordered some items from him.

The victim was also promised assistance with her business. He met with the victim at Bosman station in Pretoria CBD, claiming to deliver the order.

When they met, the accused was not having the items and they had to go collect them somewhere. While walking, Mogopeni allegedly asked the money from the victim.

He then forced her to the nearest bushes and raped her. He also took the victim belongings.

The victim went to Soshanguve Police Station to report the matter. ‘The accused was arrested on the 11 May 2022.

He is currently having two similar offence charges from two different courts’, NPA Regional Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said.

Sonwabo Mogopeni dropped his bail application after his 3 previous court appearances. The matter is transferred to the regional court and is set to take place on 10 June 2022.
