Soshanguve Plaza is giving back to the community by making sure that pensioners are in the long SASSA queue’s for their grant they grab something to eat and to drink. The initiative always takes at Soshanguve Shopping Center when during the dates whereby old people receive their grant money. They give old people food for free.
“The spirit of Ubuntu and making a difference in the Community that we live in and trade in, we take care of old people and the disabled by making sure that they don’t stand on this long cue hungry, we give them the little we can for free every month during grants dates” said Douglas Mkhonto.
The program of giving food runs for 6 months every year from March to August and it has been so for the past 15 years. The program is funded by the Plazas’ landlord but they are currently looking for a sponsor to make sure they double the number they have been feeding of the past years. The goal is help the vulnerable and those who come from disadvantaged families.
