They say “A good coach can change a game, but a great coach can change,” Coach Shadrack Mlambo has been an inspiration to many young upcoming coaches locally. Based in Hammanskraal and currently head coach of Kgositlile FC that’s competing in the ABC Motsepe league, Mlambo has enjoyed life as coach and is hungry for more success.
Like most coaches Mlambo started off as a player before his playing career was cut short in 2001 when he was involved in a car accident which saw him out action for a long period of time. His coaching journey started as coach of under 12’s and under 14’s and the rest is history.
Mlambo revealed that the love and passion for football is what motivated him to become a coach. “The love I have for the game motivated me and I always wanted to promote players to bigger leagues which I did and still doing it,”
Coaching is never an easy job to do but Mlambo embraces the challenges that comes with the job. He further revealed that coaching in the ABC Motsepe League and the success achieved at Academy level as his two biggest highlights of his career.
“Coaching an ABC Motsepe League team will be the biggest highlight of my career as we are talking about SAFA Second Division, so apart from what I have achieved with the academy coaching in this league is the highest of them”.
Mlambo won a total of 9 throphies from 2017 to 2019 as head coach of Superstars Soccer Academy. Lack of discipline from players and lack of proper training facilities have been one of the challenges Mlambo face on a daily basis.
Revealing on the challenges faced Mlambo said, “ Coaching a Kasi team on its own comes with challenges like late coming of players to training and games ,you get to be undermined by community members , club supporters even fellow coaches. “ Lack of training equipment and proper training facility also,”
As modern football requires a lot of research and tactics, Mlambo has been working hard on his coaching skills . He revealed that attending workshops and coaching courses help familiarise himself with the modern game, also checking up on training sessions by the world’s best coaches .
His dream is to coach in the PSL and be part of the national team setup and with commitment Mlambo believes those dreams can be achieved.
