Currently plying their trade in the Ga-Rankuwa Local Football Association Women’s league under the guidance of coach Letlhogonolo Mokoka, Ga-Rankuwa Shining Stars Ladies FC are looking to maintain their good form so far in the league and build a competitive team for the upcoming season.

Coach Letlhogonolo Mokoka revealed in an interview with Tshwane Bulletin what drives the team to put in good performances week in week out.

“The motivation that comes from the management and the parents is what drives us to perform this well week in week out,” he said.

The team resumed training on the 25th of January 2022 in preparation for the new season and Makoka believes the girls are ready and in great shape of mind.

“The mood is currently good as we resumed training on the 25th of January, they are really looking forward to the new season, the goal is to win the GALFA women’s league and progress to the SAFA Tshwane women’s Regional league in 2023,” said Makoka.

The Ga-Rankuwa based side scored the second most Goals in the 2021 season with 33 goals and has the second best defensive record conceding only 7 goals in a total of 12 games. Makoka expressed his delight on the team’s performance this season.

He said, “For me as their coach it’s quite intriguing to see my philosophy , style of play and strategies being implemented by these young girls and seeing them enjoy football week in week out that’s what really fascinates me”.

Makoka revealed on the club’s short term and long term goals, emphasizing that the girls were doing well and the team’s short term goal was for the players to become student athletes, which he confirmed to have achieved already as a team.

He also revealed that their medium term goal was to have a full development team for girls under 9,11,13,15,17,19, which he said they were still working on having 3 divisions comprising of under 11,15,17 and 19 in the LFA regionally.

The team currently sits second on the GALFA women’s league log with 28 points five points behind recently crowned champions Lorna Fast XI.

The club’s goal is to play in the Sasol and Hollywoodbets Super League by year 2026.
