Police have arrested a 56-year-old man from Ga-Rankuwa recently for allegedly murdering his wife at their home.
The accused who is known to have an abusive history, has called the police, informing them that his 53-year-old wife had been robbed and murdered in their home.
According Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the Police proceeded to the scene and called the paramedics that certified the woman dead after she was found with head injuries.
He further revealed that despite claims of a robbery, police identified the husband as the suspect, and arrested him following a preliminary investigation.
Masondo added that the man’s daughter was believed to have been the first to find her mother’s body after she returned home, but she was allegedly locked in the house by her father.
In their efforts to get justice for the family of the murder wife, the community of Garankuwa marched to the court wearing all black and showing GBV plackards.
According to a friend of the daughter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, she noticed something was wrong after her friend started posting WhatsApp updates asking for help, and for someone to call the police.
The friend said she had rushed to the house with two other residents, but could not get in as the gate was locked.
According to reports from community residents, it was well known that the man used to abuse his wife.
“They (the community) knew that this man had been torturing his wife,” the resident claimed.
She added that the abuse had been going on for years.
