Following an increase of furniture trucks being hijacked, the Rietgat SAPS issued a stern warning to the trucking industry particularly furniture trucks delivering in the precinct to visit the station to request for escort prior to delivering goods in the area.
This comes after a recent spate of truck jacking where victims that are driving furniture trucks are held at gun point while accomplices/suspects drives the truck to offload goods at their “warehouse” and later dump the truck.
In the latest incident among the three in the month of January, on Friday the 29th of January two armed men accosted the furniture truck driver and his assistant and made off with the Kia truck which was later found abandoned without furniture. In all the incidents that took place no one was injured in the process.
The Acting Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Khobo is calling on the community to come on board to help in tracing the perpetrators of this truck jacking.
The station further encourages the community not to buy stolen furniture from these perpetrators who may be looking for buyers in an effort to cash in on stolen items.
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of any suspects terrorizing community in one way or another or experiencing criminal activity should call Rietgat SAPS 0716756250 or (012) 432 7806/07 CrimeStop hotline 0860010111 or tip us off viaMySAPS App downloadable free on Istore and Playstore.
