The Collen Mashawana Foundation handed over a new fully furnished house to the ‘’Mkhulu’’ Mr. Joseph Thabethe on the 15th of November 20201 at block MM Soshanguve.
The previous living conditions of ‘’Mkhulu’’ was a heart-break with no water and electricity. After some members of African National Congress (ANC) along with ANC Tshwane regional chairperson Kgosi Maepa doing door to door before the elections, sported the living environment of ‘’Mkhulu’’ and alerted the Collen Mashawana foundation about his situation and asking if he could assist. Fortunate enough, Collen was touched by the situation and acted without wasting any time. The foundation graced Mkhulu with the a fully furnished house that has two bed rooms, bath room, kitchen and a lounged.
The Collen Mashawana was in partnership with Afribiz Investment in building the house, the Department of Social Development has also partnered with the Collen Mashawana Foundation promising to take care of Mkhulu’s needs from now till the end, they mentioned their priority being to focus on providing a decent shelter for older persons, child-headed households and persons with disabilities.
‘’ This is an old man who needs proper care, I will make sure that he has food, electricity and water. The will be a programme that he will be included in that will help him to keep his minds busy. Today im very happy to see that there are still good people who are willing to help without getting anything in return. This house is a sigh of Ubuntu and love. Im very thankfull for him,’’ said by MEC of Social Development, Morokane Mosupyo.
The MEC even brought groceries for Mkhulu and made a promise to him that she will make sure that he never goes to bed with an empty stomach.
With all the supports from the community and other organization, Mr. Mashawana realized that there are still people with good hearts and all that is needed is unity.
‘’ it’s about time we choose people who will represent and stand for us as a community, there are lot of people who really need help out there, people who don’t know what they will eat when they woke up. What happened to Mkhulu today is an example of what we will continue doing. We will keep on reaching out to those who are in need. I would like to plead with each and every one of you that it’s about time where you have to learn to share, if you have enough, it’s important to share with your neighbors and if the situation is beyond your control, you are more than welcome to get in touch with us.’’ Said by the funder and the chairman of Collen Mashawana foundation.
Since Mkhulu lives alone, they were worried about his safety and who will be taking care of him. The neighbors promised to be eyes and ears for him because they are now living in dangerous times where illegal substance users take advantages of those who cannot fight back for themselves. The event continues with the celebration where there were foods and drinks for the community who were present at the celebration.
The ceremony was so overwhelming for Mkhulu and he also thanked the community and the foundation for the miracle that they have done for him. He promised that he will always keep them on his prayers so that they can continue bless others.
‘’ I feel so grateful. It felt like a dream. It’s all by the grace of God, because this does not just happen. I am going to sleep well tonight all thanks to Collen Mshawana and his team. I am eternally grateful.’’ Mkhulu said.
