Gomolemo Mashabe (18) from Stinkwater is illuminating the light on the plight of dark skinned males and females who feel prejudiced against, due to societal stereotypes.
Gomolemo is not only a voice for the voiceless but a commercial, fashion and runway model under Model Management Agency, the Miss Teen Finalist South Africa, is also the founder of Dark Sheroes Melanin Campaign.
Dark melanin sheroes is a campaign that strongly focuses on empowering dark skinned males and females, who feel like they have lost their voice or have been belittled by the community due to their skin color. The campaign also creates platforms for everyone to break through any stigma and uncertainty surrounding their skin.
‘’I believe that I battled the most with self-love growing up and I ended up feeling like I wasn’t good enough just because I didn’t have fair skin, colorism and unfair treatment is the one motivating factor that pushed me to create this campaign. I’m against how the society label dark skinned girls’’ Said by Gomolemo.
Social media has made things easy for her as she is now able to connect and motivate many girls through social media platforms, and through the platform she builds, empowers and reaches out to many souls.
The positive feedback that she gets from the girls whenever there is a meeting is so overwhelming to her and that’s what gives her the courage and charisma to move forward and always wanting to serve.
She mentioned one of her goals as Miss Teen South Africa Finalist is to change how the society labels the dark skinned girls or any other girl.
‘’ all I want is to see women fighting for their space in leadership,’’ Gomolemo said.
Gomolemo mentioned that it will be a great honor for her to receive sponsorship or any other help from any other organization willing to lend a helping hand.
