Kgothatso KidK Mohlala, a 33-year old from Soshanguve Block F, started a school shoe drive with his late friend and colleague Donald Isaac Maluleke of DIMCO charity organization. Mohlala said the initiative was put into practice last year 2020, during lockdown.
He said while Maluleke was still alive they had planned to donate 500 school shoes every year to the needy children. “These children would wear their school shoes; walk around on the streets as they do not have other pairs of shoes to wear,” said Mohlala.
He said his motive behind this initiative was to make sure that no child will go to school with shoes that are not in good condition. Mohlala said “I may not be able to help every kid in the country but I will do my best to help where I can.”
The initiative is to help the less fortunate, over 300 shoes so far have been donated and Mohlala is working hard to donate more. Mohlala said they work in hand with the community as well with the schools. Learners are picked by their respective educators and a list of learner’s names is sent through to Mohlala for assistance.
Mohlala who loves helping in the community, he sometimes goes the extra mile “I sometimes use my own money when the shoes are short or the sponsors have not donated anything yet” said Mohlala.

In conclusion he said what people need to learn from this initiative is to “ prioritize our kids before anything, a child who goes to school without confidence , does not perform well in class” said Mohlala.
