Heaven’s Defense Force (HDF) a non-profit organization based in Soshanguve recently roped in Hollywood Bets to assist fellow NPO in the township, Good Hope Shepard, with groceries and lunch for volunteer staff. Good Hope Shepard, based in Block JJ, runs an everyday feeding scheme, serving over 60 unprivileged children with lunch and supper.

HDF founder, Pule Goqo, says they saw the need to assist Good Hope Shepard with groceries as they are struggling to meet the number of children who are struggling for lunch and supper. Today we decided to do things differently; we decided not to only get groceries for the kids but also cook lunch for the six staff members at Good Hope Shepard.

“I think as NPO’s sometimes we don’t get our roses while we are still alive, I think with us cooking for them today, we wanted to appreciate them and encourage them to keep doing the good work. This is proof that as NPO’s in Soshanguve we can work together towards one common purpose,” said Goqo. Good Hope Shepard, founder, Mokgadi Ramonyai, expressed her gratitude for the groceries and saluted HDF and Hollywood Bets for pampering her team for the day.

According to Ramonyai, says that initially she started a dance group in the community to keep the children busy but she noticed that most of the children who would come to practice were hungry. “Most of the children around here are hungry they don’t get to eat lunch and supper. I personally know how it feels to go to bed without food in the house, growing up, my father lost his job and my mom used work as a hawker to put food on the table and it was tough.

“We are currently struggling with office equipment and kitchen things. The feeding scheme was born from the dance and the cultural group we have here, so we want to keep these kids busy and groom them to become future leaders of tomorrow. We want to keep them away from crime and a lot of wrong things which we see happening around us,” said Ramonyai
