The Mabopane Station Central City Committee Spokesperson Kgothatso Ramautswa has expressed their gratitude to their hawkers and all parties involved in ensuring that the centre it did not become a casualty to what it termed criminality during the looting episode experienced
“What happened was an act of patriotism demonstrated by our hawkers and the community at large, they must continue to be patriotic to their own country and protect their interest. In the community there are economical differences, as a centre we understand such matters, hence we have prioritised sourcing local business for the provision of services such as security, plumbing and cleaning,” said Ramautswa.
Our security is locally based, we have been utilising their services for a long time, and their track record speaks for itself. We are about empowerment. Many projects that happen in the centre are geared towards upliftment of the community. We must remember that there are young people who are employed by this institution and this institution has in the past given back to the same community it employs.
The community was protecting what we stand for and we never mobilised them, they took the initiative themselves because they understood what was at stake. Furthermore we would like to thank the security station at the center and say thank you very much for their utmost work because there was an attempt of looting, but I think those were not community members but elements of criminality. The perpetrators were dealt with accordingly,
