Liquor traders warned against business burglaries

CAPTAIN MALULEKA

The Rietgat SAPS would like to call on to the liquor traders to be more circumspect and vigilant during this adjusted lockdown level four.

The station has experienced a rise in business burglaries during the previous lockdown level four and five in 2020, therefore it is incumbent on both the traders and the police to work hand in hand to secure the business premises particularly liquor.

Since the banning of alcohol trading, most criminals take advantage of the situation by breaking into the business premises of liquor traders like bottle stores, taverns and pubs to steal the alcoholic beverages.

As the station, we would like to warn and advise liquor traders to frequent their business sites and if possible strengthen their security detail to avoid a repeat of the previous level four.

We however are going to ensure that our patrol vans are more visible than before especially near liquor establishments, so as to make sure that business burglaries does not happen.

The Rietgat SAPS will also be patrolling these entertainment inducing places in order to further ensure illicit trading of alcohol does not happen during this period where alcohol is banned.

We would also like to encourage the community to give us tip offs on “Take it or leave it” pattern of illegal sales of alcohol in the township.

Anyone who witnesses any criminal activity in their surroundings or neighbourhood should contact the police on Crime Stop number 0860010111 or My SAPS App Rietgat SAPS 012 432 7806.
