Chillie relish enters SA Food market

35 year-old Mmule Matlala

The South African food lover’s palate is set for a mild, hot, sweet and tangy paradigm shift with the introduction of ‘Chillie Relish’ brand to the market.

The convenient bottled chillies product is the brainchild of, 35 year-old Mmule Matlala in honour of her father, born and raised in Madidi Village in the North West. Matlala later moved to Ga-rankuwa in Pretoria where she is currently residing.

Armed a B-tech Degree in Civil Engineering from Tshwane University of Technology and a go-getter mentality, she resigned from her position where she was previously employed as an Engineering Technician at Transnet Freight Rail from 2009 until in 2016 to establish her Company.

The name of her Company, Is ZDF Matlala Holdings Pty Ltd, we are company that provides catering services and manufacture Agro-processed products.

A family kept secret Matlala said “The chilli relish has always been a family recipe because while growing up in Madidi and having my Father as an Agriculturist we always had a garden full of chilli plants and we still do and because of His love for chilli i decided to produce this relish in His honour in October 2020.”

“The only partner I have in the business is my husband; he is also a shareholder in the business. I have received Funding from SEDA to get the product tested at SABS, also Business Support from Black Umbrellas as I am currently under their Business incubation programme,” said Matlala.

Compliance is always a major challenge for small businesses but with support from institutions like Seda and Black Umbrellas they provide trainings that are relevant for businesses in order to assist with compliance and access to markets.

The Vision is to connect people from all walks of life, one meal and one event at a time, and to provide a delightful culinary experience through our hand crafted cuisines and also to produce condiments that will enhance any meal without a compromise in nutrition.

Her product has been greatly received and because of an increase in the demand this is the reason why she has decided to formally commercialise the product.

All I can say for now is, we have great projects lined up and at the right time we will divulge all the information.
