The Khumalo family in Zone 7 Ga-Rankuwa had their home restored to its former after a fire gutted it to ashes recently, rendering it uninhabitable. The community and local businesses lent a helping hand to the distraught family
According Busisiwe Khumalo a mother of two, she was devastated on her way back home and couldn’t believe her eyes after seeing her four roomed house burnt down to the ground.
“Police forensics investigation concluded that an electrical fault was the cause of the fire. The community tried to put out the fire, but it was already too late to save anything,” said Busisiwe.
A case was later opened and the family of four including the husband Lesego were provided with the case number by the Ga-Rankuwa police, however, that was the last time they communicated with the police.
Busisiwe alleges that the Ga-Rankuwa Police didn’t even bother in making follow ups with regards to the fire incident.
“The community together with the Ward Councillor, Mr Floyd Thema were of great help to the sorrowful family. Local shops; Top T and Elite helped in rebuilding the Khumalo’s home and the outcomes were amazing.
The councillor also did an outstanding job in helping the family during their hardest time; he went out of his way and bought brand new school uniforms for the family’s children.
The incident has affected the family in a despondent manner; they are even seeking counselling se.
“We stuck together throughout the whole incident, we are just thankful for our lives,” said Busisiwe.
Should there be any good Samaritan who is willing to assist by donating any household essentials; the family would really appreciate it if they come forward.
