Marking the 45th commemoration of the Youth Day, the Rietgat SAPS in conjunction with nine local stakeholders joined hands in commemorating the 2021 Youth Day.

This year’s Youth Day is commemorated under the theme: “The year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society.”

The event took place near the Block JJ Clinic where over 2000 pamphlets were distributed by the station, Community Policing Forum and various stakeholders.

As part of transforming the youth of 2021, different speakers shared the platform in advising the youth of today about the current situation facing the youth.

The Rietgat SAPS advised the youth to avoid crime and to abstain from doing drugs. Through Sergeant Shabangu, the station further encouraged the youth and reminded them to focus on education and emulate the youth of ’76 for their unflinching stance against the apartheid system.

A 28 year-old Katlego Selokela from Block NN said he learned a lot from the event especially about issues of gender based violence/domestic violence, substance abuse and practicing safer sex.

He further highlighted that he wished if such events could happen monthly.

The station has vowed to support all the events that are pro youth and discouraging criminality within the precinct.
